Ametek Wind
Wind question?
I built a wind Ametek motor I got from eBay. But I've no idea if so it is impervious to rain? Does anyone have any ideas to make it water proof? All answers appreciated!
If it looks like this: while http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=230532781779 the answer is no. You can see the openings through allow air to vent through. There are probably a fan on the shaft inside the engine. If it works as a engine at full load, the ventilation would be needed to keep cool enough. Due to the opening, the rain may blow or vacuum in the chamber. In your case, you should be able to build a shroud around it (or top 270 degrees, with a front plate and the seal on the front, to protect the rain. As it generates energy when there is wind, cooling should not be a problem. If openings are a one side (bottom), then it is an ODP (open drip proof) enclosure, otherwise it is an open type.
