What size solar panel required to recharge a battery 12 volt deep cycle? PLEASE HELP?
Hello at all. We are working on a solar charging system for a deep cycle battery, used to power a heater storage tank for our horses. I need to know how many watt solar panel I need to recharge the battery during the day. We live in the Upper Peninsula of MI, Also known as tundra. We regularly receive interim -40 below. So, this information would be helpful. Thank you!
The best place to ask such questions is the forum NAWS. There are real experts out there who like to help with this kind of thing. You'll need to tell them the amp-hour battery charge. They are http://www.wind-sun.com/ForumVB/index.php. Check with others in your area to see what is customary. It may be that one battery is not enough to keep the tank from freezing. In addition, panel-40F excellent job, as long as you can prevent snow and ice from blocking the sun it. Sometimes, the natural inclination of the panel is sufficient. A lead-acid battery, however, does not this kind of weather. Presumably, you would the battery in an insulated box that does not get so cold.
