Gains in making cars more than the negative of energy production plants spewing more pollution.
I am worried that energy plants while producing more energy will also produce more pollution. I'm mainly taliking electric cars. If we all ended up driving a "big if" we did do more harm than good. The cars we think it will be more environmentally friendly can return to haunt us in the pipe exhaust. What are your thoughts on this?
An electric car can travel much farther on a smaller amount of fuel, since large improvements in energy efficiency. This means much less pollution per mile, even when fuel is burned dirty drivetrain. * The best way to prove it is to look at fuel cost. After all, you'll wind up paying for fuel, no matter how it's yours, right? First, let's look at gasoline. The typical driver puts about 15,000 miles a year on his car. This works to 1250 miles per month. * If the car driver that gets 20 miles per gallon, which is 62.5 gallons of gasoline. Use of $ 3.20/gallon (about the price we paid this past summer, and I think it's going back there), our typical driver spends about $ 200 on gas each months. * An electric car uses kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity instead of gasoline. Typically, our EV could obtain 3 to 7 miles per KWH. Thus, for this example we will use 4 miles / KWH. In my town there is a special electric EV rate of only 3 cents / kWh. But in other places, the rate of electricity could be 10 cents or more per KWH. We'll use 6 cents. * Using these figures, even the 1250 miles per month - The cost of our typical driver $ 200 for gasoline - cost only $ 18.75 for electricity for our electric car. The electric "Fuel" costs only about 10% of what gasoline does! * Thus, using this method we can approach that leads to miles of electricity are worth 10 times the miles flown mileage on gasoline, or we could also say it takes a tenth of the amount of fuel for a electric vehicle to travel the same distance. (There are other ways to calculate, but the EV mileage is at least 5 times better and from a standpoint of money, as we have seen up to 10 times better.) * Why is power so much less expensive than gasoline? There are two reasons. The first is that electric motors are far more efficient than gasoline engines, while VE can lead much further with less fuel. The second reason is the transportation fuel costs. Fuels Electric Car by wire (the power grid is 95% efficiency). However, your car requires gas transmission infrastructure that fuel large vessels, pipes, trucks, and retail gasoline across the country (source of additional pollution in the process). The price of this infrastructure is built into the price of gasoline. * This also the reason electric cars pollute much, much less. Whatever is burned at the plant.
