Is it possible to use a car starter as a wind turbine?
Hello, car and wind energy experts, Is it possible to use a car starter as a wind turbine? if it is, what are the advantages and disadvantages? Thank you. Many use the HP belt stock DC motors as generators of wind, I think a car boot is also a DC motor can be used as a generator of wind, I could be wrong completely.
Slinky, F Ric answered your question and its answer is valid, but an alternator Car can be used to generate wind power, but without an overhaul can not even do a good job, a belt wind will do as good, with less wind. There are very few good, cheap HVAT that exists because of their need to be placed in a high, stable environment in the wind 10 mph average. (EAH = horizontal axis) A vertical axis wind turbine, on the other hand, can start with as little as 4.4 mph, and start generating electricity with only 5.5 to 6 mph. (VAWT vertical axis =) Any motor armature field /, starters and generators / alternators, used to build a wind turbine, it will take much wind to power the blades / vanes for it to spin fast enough to generate a current that can be used. This can be a real problem because of the RPM and wind speed / power required to obtain significant energy to this type of engine. Engines permanent magnet, some magnetic levitation to reduce drag and heat, can do much for a vertical axis wind turbine, but not as for a horizontal surface.
