Generator's armature and dynamo make electricity by turning in the earth's magnetic field. The earthh's magnetic field feed itself through the panels like the wind in a wind mill. Something like that would be more dependable then solar panels, and less maintance.

The magnetic field must be moving with respect to the generator coil. A simple check with a compass will show that the field is not moving, so the coil must be moving. This requires energy which must be supplied from somewhere. Also, the field is very weak so only a miniscule output will be produced, far less than the energy supplied to move the coil..
