How wide is the jaw of a great white shark is?
My friend thinks a great white shark jaw is 12 feet wide .... someone can prove he is wrong and provide a source other than wikipedia so that it can not complain about being "right?" He saw a live, hes probably just exaggerating. Does anyone know the average width of jaw? I could not find that anywhere on the Internet.
The largest predatory shark is the great white (Carcharodon carcharias), said to reach lengths of more than 9 meters (30 feet). To recently, the largest scientifically accepted Great White was a specimen of 7 meters (23 feet) long caught off Malta in the Mediterranean in April 1987. Unfortunately, later investigation revealed that its length has been exaggerated by about 25%. A deemed of comparable size Great White captured off Kangaroo Island, South Australia, in April 1987 remains the largest predatory shark reliably reported, but since the head and pectoral fins retained by the fisherman who caught the scientific verification of its actual length could not be made. The following white-largest on the Grand record in the scientific literature is a specimen of 6.4 meter wide speared Cuba in May 1945, but this, too, was questioned. To best of my knowledge, the largest Great White recorded in the scientific literature is a female of 6.1 meters in length caught off Prince Edward Island, in August 1983. If he claims to have seen a great white with a jaw as wide as 12 feet, he saw a shark that would have exceeded the measurments of a largest Megalodon (Shark still alive on earth, off). Simply not possible.
